Despite “massive efforts” to curb the problem of dog mess in Dolgellau, the message is still being “ignored” by some owners and more needs to be done, a county councillor has said.
Cllr Linda Morgan (pictured right with Jonathan Neale, Tidy Towns officer), said there had been many reports of dog mess in Dolgellau in the last 12 months leading to visits from wardens, police and Gwynedd Council officers, and the installation of a bin in the Penycaeau Estate in May.
While the bin is “emptied on a regular basis”, Cllr Morgan said, “unfortunately we are still having complaints”, and council workers have had to arrange to clear the mess over the past month.
In Dolgellau town, with the help of Tidy Towns officer Jonathan Neale, temporary signs have been installed to help stop the dog mess, leaflets handed out and ‘Dog Poo Bag sets’ given to dog owners.
“I have placed Dog Kit bags in certain areas through the town over the last two years to see if it would help with people’s concerns,” Cllr Morgan said. “They are going well but unfortunately the small minority who do not pick up just ignore them.”
Concerns were also raised in Y Lawnt where dog mess is found directly outside the houses in that area “on a daily basis”.
