IT’S good news for Rover and Shep – dogs are now allowed in Cardigan Castle.

The castle, which opened for the new season last week, is joining Welsh heritage body Cadw in allowing dogs on leads into its grounds.

The invite is open to all paying castle visitors – they will just be asked to pay an extra £1 for their pooch and get free poo bags in return.

Castle director Jac Davies said: “We’ve listened to feedback from visitors over the last couple of years – what was evident was that people were missing out on visiting the castle because they had a dog with them.

“We noticed that Cadw revised their policy for the monuments and castles in their care so we’ve decided to follow suit on a trial basis. We want to ensure that as many visitors have the opportunity to enjoy the castle as possible.”

Dog owners will be asked to keep their pets on a lead and they will not be able to take them into the house or restaurant. However they will be able to enjoy a meal or drink sat at the garden tables outside 1176.
