Cefn Rodyn

CEFN Rodyn residential home has received a batch of presents from a local community group (see picture).

The home was presented with two DVD players and money for Christmas and birthday presents.

The gifts were supplied by Friends of Cefn Rodyn, a community group set up to help support residents in the home.

On previous occasions, the Friends have donated an electric piano as well as three TVs.

Acting matron Lynne Pearce said: “Can I take this opportunity to say how much staff and residents appreciate the support, hard work and generosity of the Friends.”

Late-night shopping

Mawddach Rotary Club is again organising the Dolgellau late night shopping event on 26 November.

The square will be closed from approximately 5pm, therefore if you are likely to travel by bus that afternoon or evening, then look out for instructions from your bus company as to alternative pick-up points.

Diversions will be in place between from 5pm to 8.30pm.

Siôn Corn will of course be in residence at TH Café from 5pm together with his elves and is looking forward to chatting to the children and giving them a small Christmas present.

In the square there will be a stage which will see performances from Llanelltyd (5pm) and Brithdir schools (5.30pm), Abergynolwyn Silver Band and other local performers, arranged by the Doldrum team.

This year one of the main attractions in the square will be Panic Circus.

They will be mesmerising the children with performances including stiltwalking, juggling and Punch and Judy. They will be perfoming between 6pm and 8pm.

The fire service is also looking forward to allowing children into their vehicles and explain what the fire service do.

South Snowdonia Mountain Rescue Team will also be present.

Most of the shops and banks will be open during the evening.

The shop window display competition will be based on the theme of the 12 days of Christmas.

An added attraction is the opportunity for the public to note which windows are hiding the ‘Christmas penguin’.

Some, but not all, shops will be given a small penguin to incorporate into their displays.

Window-gazers can get a form from TH, Guinivere and some other shops which will be handed into Guinivere once completed on the night.

From the correct entries, one entry will be drawn to win the cuddly toy penguin.

Remember, it is not just the shops in the square that participate.

Make sure you look at all shop windows.

The shop window displays themselves will be judged by a panel of three on the day before the late-night shopping event so that the winner can display the trophy on the evening itself.

Last year’s winner was the Red Cross Shop.
