A socially distanced afternoon tea held in Dolgellau has raised £800 for charity.

Despite concerns about the coronavirus, Cllr Linda Morgan was able to go ahead with the event, as she explained.

“I registered the event back in July,” she said. “With the concern of Covid I was unable to advertise the event so through social media and friends and neighbours I was able to raise the majority of the funds before and after the event.

“We held the afternoon tea at Y Lawnt with social distancing in mind.

“We had 21 neighbours and friends who came along to support the event safely, it was a lovely sunny day.”

A raffle was drawn on the day by mayor Delwyn Evans.

A ‘guess the number of scones’ competition was won by Ann Williams and ‘pin the cherry on the Bakewell’ by Iola Evans.

Linda said: “I’d like to thank everyone who helped make this social distancing event a great success.

“We had a lot of donations, a lot of support – too many to mention – but thank you to you all.

“I chose this fundraising event as breast cancer was my first cancer.

“I am now on my fourth diagnosis and it is so important that we all try and do some form of fundraising for the many charities in the UK.

"Cancer care in Wales is excellent and we must support all those involved.”
