Regarding the article on page 10 of last week’s Cambrian News ‘End of world war anniversary’.

May I respectfully remind people that 8 May 1945 was not the end of World War Two, but only the end of war in Europe.

World War Two continued until the Japanese surrender in mid-August 1945 (formally in September) after the bombing of Hiroshima on 6 August and Nagasaki on 9 August.

My late father was a prisoner of war in Fukuoka, having been captured on 15 February 1943, with thousands of others, at the fall of Singapore.

He survived. Let’s not forget those who died or suffered terribly in the Far East and hope the Second World War will be the last.
