Gardening club

AT THE May meeting, members learned all about weed control, something that with the better weather becomes an increasingly bigger issue! The club’s next meeting is on Wednesday, 1 June, at 7.30pm at The Red Dragon Hall, when members will be enjoying an illustrated talk from Jade Mellor about wild picking and foraging. Jade has been a professional forager for over a decade and runs a small rural business. She will be going through her year of wild food and foraging.Club meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday of each month. Free refreshments are served following the speaker’s presentation and club members bring along items for the raffle, such as spare plants and garden produce. The club also organises a seed swap. There is a warm welcome for every-one and guests are invited for free on their first visit. Annual membership costs £10. The club also arranges visits to award-winning and historic gardens, member’s gardens and specialist nurseries throughout the year. In addition, the club holds two plant sales every year. The first is in the spring, and was held on Saturday, 14 May, and the second is at Drefach Felindre’s Carnival, which is on Saturday, 16 July. Donations of plants, gardening items and garden produce are much appreciated for these events and proceeds go towards community projects such as the annual horticultural and craft show which is held each year in September at the Red Dragon Hall. Organisers thanked everyone who contributed to the successful plant sale on 14 May.Further information can be found on the website www.drefachfelindregar-deningclub.co.uk or by contacting the programme secretary, Hazel Britton, on [email protected] or 01559 370537.
