Gardening Club
JUNE’S meeting was a fascinating and very enthusiastic talk by Jade Mellor about wildpicking and foraging. It is amazing how much of our natural environment we can utilise. The Gardening Club’s next meeting is on Wednesday, 6 July, 7.30pm at The Red Dragon Hall in Drefach Felindre. The meeting is a members’ social evening with cheese and wine and there will be a panel of members available for a ‘Gardeners Question Time’. Visitors are very welcome to join us at this social evening. The Gardening Club’s meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday of each month. Free refreshments are served following the speaker’s presentation and club members bring along items for the raffle, such as spare plants and garden produce. We also organize a seed swap. There is a warm welcome for everyone and guests are invited for free on their first visit. Annual membership costs just £10.The club also arranges visits to award winning and historic gardens, member’s gardens and specialist nurseries throughout the year. In addition, the club holds two plant sales every year. The first one, held in May, was a great success and raised nearly £500. We would like to thank everyone who contributed in any way to the success of this event. The second sale is held at Drefach Felindre’s carnival, which is on Saturday, 16 July. Donations of plants, gardening items and garden produce are much appreciated for these events and proceeds go towards community projects such as the Annual Horticultural and Craft Show which is held each year in September at the Red Dragon Hall in Drefach Felindre.
