A man from Newcastle Emlyn has been chosen to become the next TAC Chair (Teledwyr Annibynnol Cymru / Welsh Independent Producers).

Dyfrig Davies, managing director of production company Telesgop and former Aberystwyth University student, has stepped in to the role of chair after Gareth Williams, chief executive of Rondo Media, steps down after three-and-a-half years.

Dyfrig is a long-standing member of TAC council and also chair of Urdd Gobaith Cymru as well as being an award-winning director, producer and executive producer of live events and documentary programmes.

Telesgop won a Bafta Cymru Award for Single Documentary in 2020 for The Prince and the Bomber, and Dyfrig is executive producer on Telesgop’s coverage of the Royal Welsh Show and on popular and successful weekly S4C farming series Ffermio.

Gareth Williams said: “I am delighted Dyfrig succeeds me as TAC Chair. On behalf of TAC council, I would like to welcome him to the role which I know he will fulfil in his customary assured, balanced and constructive style.

“Dyfrig will join the new executive team at TAC, and I look forward to seeing the future developments in store for our members.?

Dyfrig said: “I would like to thank Gareth for his commitment to the chair’s role since 2018.

“As TAC council, we greatly appreciate his outstanding contribution to our work, which has raised our profile considerably, especially since the beginning of the pandemic.

“I am looking forward very much to becoming chair, and continuing to build on TAC’s strong relationship with S4C and other broadcasters, policy-makers and regulatory bodies, and of course, our members in the production sector in Wales.?

Dyfrig’s career has also seen him produce a television programme on the historian Dr John Davies. The show won a BAFTA for the director Dylan Wyn Richards.

Telesgop produces Ffermio, the popular farming and countryside magazine series on S4C.

The show is filmed regularly in Ceredigion.

The production company also produced the International Sheep Dog Trials in September which was broadcasted on S4C and also BBC Alba through the company Beezr in Glasgow.

Telesgop also produces for content for Radio Cymru, and Dyfrig is also the executive producer on Ifan, a daily afternoon programme broadcast from Aberystwyth every Monday–Thursday.
