Madam,

It is a bit rich of Mr MacMaster to accuse Mr Louvet of self-delusion when he then asserts that “we cannot and will not get a deal from Brussels” and that “leaving the EU is nothing to do with economics”.

He is completely wrong on both counts.

Firstly Mrs May got an EU withdrawal agreement almost a year ago and Mr Johnson made a different agreement with the EU last week.

Mr Johnson clearly thinks it is okay for him to change his mind. Therefore he should now accept that the public is given the opportunity to decide whether the current version of Brexit is still their “will”, through a confirmatory referendum.

In truth, economics is right at the heart of the delusional Brexit Mr MacMaster is advocating.

Mr MacMaster ends by saying that leaving the EU is about whether we run our own show or not.

Quite frankly, the illegal, contemptuous and disrespectful way Mr Johnson treats the laws made in our parliament does not bode well for the type of democracy we might look forward to under his stewardship of 10 Downing Street, if he gets his way, without adequate scrutiny, post-Brexit.

Yours etc, David Naylor, Harlech.
