A LLANENGAN playgroup is in danger of closing because of a fall in numbers and lack of funding.

In March the playgroup’s leader Caryl Williams told the Cambrian News that Cylch Meithrin Llanengan was struggling to remain open due to a lack of funding.

Six months on the playgroup is still struggling due to a fall in the number of children attending the sessions.

Caryl said: “The problem we have at the moment at the Cylch is that we only have three kids on the register, who are coming part-time.

“There are another three children coming after Christmas, although at least two of those will again be part-time.

“So the fees we currently receive are nowhere near enough to keep the Cylch open!

“It’s so hard for playgroups like us out there right now but it’s such a shame to see us struggling as it’s such a brilliant start to children’s educational miles and it would be such a shame if we were to close!

“We’re really lucky to have such good support from the parents, and also people from the local community, who support the things we do.

“We had an ESTYN inspection earlier this year which brought back a really good report for us which we were really happy with as a lot of hard work has gone into raising the playgroup to the standard it is now.”

Caryl said there is now a push for further fundraising events to help keep the Cylch open for the local community.

She added: “Extra efforts will need to be made this year to fundraise so we will be looking at different ways to make money. “
