COUNTY education chiefs have hit back at claims Ysgol Gynradd Aberaeron school has so many pupils it is now ‘at bursting point’.
Town councillors have pledged to step up the pressure on Ceredigion County Council to try and ensure that the primary school gets a new extension, claiming that it has been 15 years since the idea was first mooted.
County councillor Elizabeth Evans said funds had been made available to Commins Coch and Llanilar primaries, which she claimed were similarly ‘over-subscribed’. But a council spokesman said this week that the Aberaeron school was not currently over capacity.
“The extensions at Ysgol Comins Coch and Ysgol Llanilar are required to ensure that the schools comply with the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 and also Welsh Government guidelines regarding the required number of toilet facilities,” he added.
