A TYWYN school has celebrated International School Library Month in a novel manner.
In a world full of technology and computer games, it is important that children continue to enjoy reading books.
Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn was proud to support and promote International School Library Week during October.
This was the theme of this term’s Welsh Language scheme.
Pupils were tasked with reading a school library book, then using their Welsh vocabulary to discuss that book with members of staff, earning points for their form group.
It proved an interesting topic, and it was enjoyable listening to the pupils describe a variety of books they had enjoyed.
The most popular authors were without a doubt David Walliams, and Tywyn’s own Manon Steffan Ros.
Not only did the winning form, year 7T, receive a hamper to share, generously supplied by Co-op Tywyn again, but they had an additional treat to celebrate the ‘Library Book’ theme – their very own workshop with Manon Steffan Ros.
Dafydd Evans, one of the new Year 7 pupils said: “Before half term, the famous author from Wales, Manon Steffan Ros, came to our classroom to discuss our class reading book, Trwy’r Tonnau. We were celebrating International School Library Month. We had a very interesting time writing our individual stories. At the end of the lesson some pupils read their stories out in front of their friends in class. Thank you Manon for coming to join us.”
