Ceredigion County Council’s Cynnydd project and Alternative Curriculum first annual awards ceremony has taken place in Cwrtnewydd.

The celebration recognised the achievements of Year 11 pupils who have received support through the Cynnydd project and Alternative Curriculum Provision.

The project has helped the young people most at risk of disengaging with education by providing intensive interventions to improve their attendance at school and their attainment and behaviour.

Support has included mentoring, coaching, and courses to increase employment and life skills to help improve future education and career prospects.

Catrin Miles, the Cabinet member responsible for learning services, said: “It was a pleasure to be part of this successful event to celebrate the achievements of so many young people.

“The Alternative Curriculum is a very important provision within the county and provides pupils with extraordinary opportunities.

“The Cynnydd project has enabled a large number of young people gain additional qualifications, the majority of which are Level 2 qualifications.

“It is a pleasure to hear a number of successful stories with many of the young people already accepted in colleges ready for September.”
