AN aspiring Ceredigion hairdresser has won a regional heat to reach a national final.
Bayley Harries, a Level 2 Hairdressing apprentice at Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training, took the top spot in her heat of a prestigious skills competition in Wrexham on 26 November.
The competition, organised by World Skills UK, aims to inspire young people interested in vocational careers to achieve their full potential in their chosen career.
By winning her heat, Bayley competed in the Wales National Final in Cardiff on 17 December, coming third in the whole of Wales. All staff and fellow learners at HCT were behind Bayley as she moved forward in the competition.
Following on from this, Bayley will carry on to compete in the UK-wide skills competition in 2019.
Carys Randell, a hairdressing tutor at HCT, congratulated Bayley for doing so well in entering the competition and putting in the huge effort to win the north regional heat for Wales.
“I am so proud of Bayley and wish her all the best for the UK competition next year,” she said.
The Cabinet member responsible for learning services, Cllr Catrin Miles, said: “Bayley’s achievement is down to her hard work and commitment. Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training has trained and encouraged her to reach this high level.
“Bayley demonstrated how far she has developed as a hairdresser and demonstrates the excellent training available at HCT.”
HCT offers a range of vocational courses for people of all ages, including Hairdressing, Childcare, Business Administration, Information Technology, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrics, Blacksmithing, Agriculture, Motor Mechanics, and Welding.
