THE CHAIR of governors at a village primary school near Lampeter has admitted there have been complaints from parents about the school despite inspectors giving it a glowing report.

The 61-pupil Ysgol Felinfach was rated as “good” - the second highest rating – for both its current performance and its prospects for improvement in a report released earlier this month.

The school was praised for the quality of its teaching and its attendance average for the last four years which placed it “consistently in the top 25 per cent in comparison with similar schools”.

However, a letter was received by the Cambrian News from two people claiming to be parents who maintained the report paints a totally misleading picture.

They said they had “lost all faith in the system” and called for the Estyn inspection report to be reviewed and questioned “at the highest level”.

They said: “This is due to the fact that a catalogue of unfortunate events having occurred since the end of the summer term 2015.

“A member of staff has been off work since summer term 2015 and subsequently many supply teachers having been teaching KS2 class resulting in severe instability and lack of continuity.

“As a highly-respected teacher her absence is viewed by the majority of parents as a real loss to the school.”
