There was cause for celebration in many households in Dwyfor and Meirionnydd on Thursday as students collected their A-level results.
Education chiefs have praised teenagers following “pleasing” results across the board, with many now looking to go on to university.
“We should be proud of the success of our young people,” said Cllr Cemlyn Rees Williams, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet member for education.
“The students are to be congratulated for their dedication and perseverance and I offer my sincere gratitude to the teachers for their hard work during the year and for preparing students so thoroughly for the examinations.
“I would like to wish our young people all the best as they take the next steps in their careers.”
Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s Pwllheli campus achieved excellent results, with over 31 per cent of students achieving A*-A grade, an increase of 15 per cent compared to last year.
Overall, 99.5 per cent of learners achieved A*-E at the campus.
Among those celebrating was Bryn Matheson Hughes, 18, from Rhyd Ddu, who will be jetting off to San Francisco to study at the renowned Stanford University.
Bryn achieved an A* in both maths and physics, an A in electronics and B in computer science, Welsh Baccalaureate and AS further maths.
Nathaniel Davies, 18, from Dolgellau scooped 4 A*s in maths, further maths, chemistry and law, and will be going to study at Warwick University in September.
At Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s Dolgellau campus students achieved an overall pass rate of 97.8 per cent, with over 17 per cent achieving A* or A and 83.7 per cent achieving A*-C.
