THE multi-million-pound Innovation and Enterprise Campus at Aberystwyth University will go ahead, despite fears that it is mostly funded by the European Union.
Questions were raised over the future of the £40.5m development following the UK’s decision last month to leave the EU.
Half the cost of the Aberystwyth Innovation and Enterprise Campus - currently under construction in Gogerddan on the site of agricultural buildings near the slip road to Bow Street opposite the FUW’s headquarters - is being borne by the European Union Regional Development Fund.
The project, delayed after originally being slated to open in 2015, was put on ice after funding could not be found.
After the announcement of the EU funding in 2014, the university said it was “finally in a position to move the project forward”.
During a meeting of Aberystwyth University Council earlier this month, the university said it remained committed to the multi-million-pound scheme - as well as plans to spend millions on renovating both Pantycelyn Halls and the Old College.
Chair of the council and Chancellor of Aberystwyth University, Sir Emyr Jones Parry, said: “During our meeting, we underlined our commitment to the Aberystwyth Innovation and Enterprise Campus in Gogerddan.”
