A FORMER pupil of Tregaron’s Ysgol Henry Richard has been chosen to lead the school as it brings three campuses together on a new purpose-built site.
Dorian Pugh, currently acting head teacher, takes up the position on a permanent basis from September and will be at the helm of the school’s transformation.
He said it is a privilege to lead the school having been taught there himself, and relishes the challenges that lay ahead as it prepares for a new chapter.
Ysgol Henry Richard is one of a new wave of schools to provide education for children aged three to 16, providing a seamless transition for pupils as they move from infant, to junior and secondary phases.
It is currently operating across three sites - Tregaron primary campus, Llanddewi Brefi campus and Tregaron secondary campus – with teachers working across all three sites in a move designed to support planning for the new school, as well as exposing pupils to a range of teaching styles.
The new school will be located at the current secondary campus and is expected to be ready for pupils in September 2018.
In the meantime, Mr Pugh will lead a team of staff tasked with ensuring all pupils fulfil their potential – and not just in the traditional means.
He added: “As head teacher I have a vision of developing a school which ensures provision is pupil-centred, allowing all pupils to progress in terms of educational attainment as well as developing as individuals.
“Being a former pupil of the school, I feel privileged to lead a group of excellent staff which share a vision of ensuring pupil success at all times."
