Leaking windows at the new school in Tregaron are among "snagging issues" Ceredigion County Council is pushing to get fixed, as the chief executive arranges to meet the construction company.

Members of the overview and scrutiny co-ordinating committee were told that Eifion Evans had been asked to intervene and meet with the managing director of WRW.

Problems include leaking Velux windows and electrical issues at Ysgol Henry Richard, said Allan Bailey at a meeting last week.

Mr Bailey said that all phases of the school’s new build and refurbishment were complete, although had been after their due date, and a number of extras were included through “value engineering”.

These include resurfacing, new furniture, £50,000 of ICT equipment, tennis court resurfacing, a new rood on the main entrance and external play equipment.

“We are experiencing a bit of frustration with the contractor, they have been pretty slow in coming back to fix some of the elements,” added Mr Bailey.

He told members he was “comfortable” with the overall quality of the new build but there had been some comments about the work incorporating the old building with an “external envelope.”

While Mr Bailey added that the council retained 2.5 per cent, “almost six figures”, so had “quite a bit of leverage” on the contractors.

Committee chairman Cllr Paul Hinge asked what the time scale was for fixing snagging issues as they were “not conducive for good working conditions or learning conditions for pupils”.
