A DELAYED duck race has finally taken place to raise money for a school trip of a lifetime.

It seems like a long time ago when Meirionnydd was entrenched in a heat wave, and for the first time in the history of duck races, Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn had to postpone its annual PTFA Duck Race due to lack of rain in the rivers.

However, after the tail end of Storm Callum, the rivers were replenished, and the sun came out on Sunday, 14 October, in perfect time for the rescheduled race.

The event was organised by the school’s PTFA (Parents, Teachers and Friends Association) and the technology department to raise much needed funds for the school and for a special expedition to Morocco in 2020 were on board to help out with cake making and selling raffle tickets, together with the name the suck competition – the name of the duck incidentally was Evelyn.

Due to the large number of ducks sold, several heats were held, with a ‘grand final’ contested by winning ducks from previous rounds.

While students, teachers, parents and members of the local community gathered by the bridge to cheer on their ducks, the PTFA served welcome hot dogs, home bakes and drinks from the Neuadd Egryn.

The school would like to thank all those who sold and bought ducks in advance of the event, the Morocco group pupils for their enthusiasm, and hope that everyone who came along on the day had a great time in the sunshine.
