A MEIRIONNYDD headteacher has promised to take action after his school was put into special measures by inspectors.

Ysgol Ardudwy in Harlech has been placed into special measures after education watchdogs, Estyn, raised concerns over standards and quality of teaching and ‘effectiveness of leadership’ at all levels.

Inspectors said the school must improve the quality of teaching and assessment; improve provision to develop pupils’ literacy skills: improve the quality and effect of leadership at all levels; and “improve the use of findings from self-evaluation activities to plan improvements.

Ysgol Ardudwy will now be reviewed by inspectors every term following the poor findings from an inspection before Christmas.

Following the report, acting headteacher Aled Williams said the school was looking forward to the challenge of fully implementing the vision set out by Estyn inspectors, adding: “This report offers a clear programme for us here in Ardudwy, as a team, governing body and a whole community to move on to take action and ensure that the school offers the best possible education for the children of the Ardudwy catchment area.”
