Students at Coleg Ceredigion’s Aberystwyth campus received an inspirational talk by Paul Pugh on the dangers of alcohol-fuelled violence.

Paul Pugh, who once had a career as a talented football captain with Cwmamman United football club, had his hopes extinguished when he fell victim to an unprovoked violent attack by a drunken mob during a night out in 2007. Seven years on he still struggles to cope with everyday life.

Paul now uses his horrific experience to campaign for a crackdown on alcohol-fuelled violent crime.

Paul’s Pledge, a campaign he fronts in partnership with Dyfed Powys Police, visits schools, colleges and various other institutions to highlight the dangers of alcohol-fuelled crime and its devastating effects.

Speaking of his experience, Paul recalled: “Waking from a coma two months later, I found myself in a hospital cubicle with my family and friends surrounding me with a devastated look on their faces, and I had no idea why! The unprovoked alcohol fuelled-attack had left me with a brain injury.

“This campaign is my way of doing something positive after what has happened, I hope my story and seeing the effect of violence on me will stop it from happening again.”
