THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD Sara Elan Jones, a pupil at Ysgol Bro Pedr, Lampeter, has won a competition to design an original idea for a logo for NAWR, the Arts and Education Network: Mid and West Wales.

Sara Elan’s design was chosen by a panel from the University of Wales Trinity St David, including the executive project officer, administrator and senior lecturers in visual arts.

They said they chose the design because of its dynamic imagery they feel echoes the core values of the network combined with freehand lettering and use of symbols to indicate people working together.

Sara said: “I spend a lot of my time sketching and drawing; when I was asked to try the competition to design the logo for NAWR I sketched many different ideas.

“I decided to choose the simplest design, in order to give the best effect and combine what NAWR stands for within my design.

“I put in small details related to the meanings of the words that NAWR represent.”
