THE National Grid is helping four schools across Gwynedd gear up for the autumn term by donating computer equipment and VEX Robotics kit.

Four secondary schools Brynrefail, Friars, Tryfan and Y Moelwyn, all received laptops in recognition of their participation in National Grid’s VEX Robotics programme.

VEX allows school children to design robots and use them in a series of trials that test their technical abilities, including making their robot pick up objects and throw them at targets. Activities like these let young students tackle basic engineering problems in a fun, imaginative way.

John Shorney, Community Relations Officer at National Grid, said: “Computers play a huge part in all of our lives and they’re essential to a career in engineering. We’re pleased to be able to donate kit that will help these youngsters improve their IT skills – and we hope they’ll use them to find out more about what we do at National Grid.”

Ysgol Y Moelwyn teacher, Mr. Iwan Roberts, said: “These laptops will really help our students with their studies and improve their general IT skills.”
