Parents of children at Ysgol Ciliau Parc are calling for a suspension of county council plans to close the primary school along with those at Felinfach and Dihewyd by August 2022 without first confirming where the new Aeron Valley area school will be built.

They are urging a suspension of the school closure notices and calling for an inquiry into how the local authority’s schools service has conducted the community engagement process launched over three years ago.

In June 2016 plans to turn council buildings at the Theatr Felinfach site into an area school were overwhelmingly rejected by parents, who voiced concerns that the close proximity of three major factories and a biomass-burning plant posed significant health hazards to their children.

They also pointed out the proposed site was not located within any of the communities affected by the school closures, meaning children could not walk or cycle to school.

Parent Eleanor Bryant, asked: “The council is asking the community to make its objections to the closures, but how can parents and local community members respond without knowing what they are objecting to?

“Objections may be different depending on where the council is proposing to house the new school.”
