A DOLGELLAU teenager has been elected into an influential position by his peers.
Following months of feverish campaigning by numerous worthy candidates, Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor has declared teenager Rob Whittey as its new student union president for the 2017-2018 academic year.
Rob, 18, is studying A-levels in maths, electronics and physics.
He said: “I applied to be Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s student union president because I want to help students with any issues they have and I want to make a difference if it’s needed.”
Rob, who enjoys many outdoor activities including running, walking up mountains and cycling, hopes to go on to university to further his studies in maths or electrical engineering.
He also said he is keen to listen to the ideas of students and student representatives from across the college’s three campuses at Dolgellau, Pwllheli and Glynllifon. He is aiming to represent his peers effectively, as well as attending external National Union of Students (NUS) events during the course of the year, including the national conference.See this week's north editions for the full story, in shops and online on Thursday
