A PRIMARY school near Tregaron has been given the thumbs up by inspectors.
Ysgol Rhos Helyg, situated on two sites in the villages of Llangeitho and Bronant, was rated as ‘good’ for both its current performance and prospects for improvement following an inspection by Estyn.
The 57 pupil-school, established in 2013 following the merger of the two village schools, was praised in a report released last week for pupils “making good progress” with “consistently good” teaching.
Inspectors praised a turn-around in pupil’s attendance, calling it a “significant improvement” but warned it remained “lower than average”.
“Recently, pupils’ attendance has improved as a result of strategies that are used by the school,” the report found.
“Pupils’ attendance rate this year is about 97 per cent, which is a significant improvement.
“Although there have been improvements, since it was established, the school’s performance has been lower than the average.”
The school’s current performance is good, inspectors found, because “most pupils make positive progress and achievement from their starting points”; “there is effective provision of a range of relevant and interesting learning experiences”; “the quality of teaching is consistently good and supports successful learning”; “provision for looking after, supporting and leading pupils is efficient and diligent”; “purposeful use is made of assistants, which is a strength at the school”; “the school is a safe and caring community, that appreciates each pupil equally”; and “the learning environment, indoors and outdoors, is used creatively to improve pupils’ outcomes.”
