Estyn inspectors have praised Ysgol Gynradd Aberaeron for the ‘enriching educational experiences’ its pupils receive.
The schools watchdog reported that the Wellington Gardens-based primary had made considerable improvements since the last Estyn visit due to ‘hard-working teachers and assistants’, a ‘robust senior management team’ and ‘dedicated governors’ co-ordinated by ‘the influential headteacher who has established a clear vision for the school’.
The inspectors recognised that the school provides innovative and pioneering learning experiences for their pupils.
They said that staff at Ysgol Gynradd Aberaeron had demonstrated that they are planning effectively in preparation for the new curriculum.
Consequently, they have been invited to prepare a case study on how they plan stimulating themes and adopt innovative prompts and events to have a rich influence on pupils’ experiences and learning. This will be shared on Estyn’s website.
The report also states that the teachers plan ‘exceptional opportunities to learn about the history of the local area and Welsh culture’.
The school takes an active part in community life and this helps ‘develop pupils’ creative and expressive skills purposefully and improve their self-confidence and motivation to work together.’
In addition, inspectors were very impressed with the ‘highly effective’ arrangements the school has made in order to ensure the care and well-being of all pupils.
The school is ‘an inclusive, happy and homely community in which there is a strong emphasis on providing all individuals with purposeful support’, they stated.
“It is encouraging and heart-warming for us to receive recognition for the effective and collaborative teamwork of the learners, staff, parents and governors,” said headteacher Catrin Thomas.
