A group of pupils in an Aberystwyth school have been told to self-isolate after a positive case of Covid-19 was confirmed.
A Year 8 tutor group and maths group at Ysgol Penglais have been asked to self-isolate after a positive case was identified.
This comes after a positive case was confirmed in Year 7 last week, on Monday, 9 November.
Parents received a letter from headteacher Mair Hughes this afternoon, stating that those who have been identified as close contacts have already been contacted by the school and there is “currently no evidence of in-school transmission”.
The letter states: “It is with regret that I have to inform you that a positive case of Covid-19 has been identified at Ysgol Penglais. We have asked all students from a Year 8 tutor group and maths group to self-isolate as they are identified as close contacts.
“All students and families who are identified as close contacts have been contacted by the school therefore if you have not been contacted there is no need for your child to stay at home.
“We have strong procedures in place to ensure hygiene and cleanliness, and to minimise contact between groups of students. There is currently no evidence of in-school transmission therefore there is no need for anyone other than identified students to remain at home.”
Ceredigion County Council confirmed the new case and said: “Due to the strong procedures that have been put in place in the school, only a small number of pupils are being asked to self-isolate.
“The parents of all these pupils have been contacted by the school and will also be supported by Ceredigion Contact Tracing Team.
“The council urges all parents to refer their children for a test if they develop any of the symptoms, which are a high temperature, a continuous cough or loss or change to sense of smell or taste.”
