CARDIGAN Library will have to be relocated, most likely to a smaller premises, because councillors didn’t back the sale of the town’s Morgan Street council office, Ceredigion Council’s leader has said.
While the ruling Cabinet had wanted to sell off the Morgan Street office, that was overruled by the full council who questioned the savings the authority claimed could be made by selling Morgan Street and renting more space at Canolfan Teifi, where the current library is based.
However, Cabinet members insisted that following the full council decision, the library would now have to be relocated – with a suggestion that could be at the ground floor of the Morgan Street office.
Council leader Ellen ap Gwynn and Dafydd Edwards, the Cabinet member for IT and customer services, said the need to relocate Cardigan’s library was a direct result of full council members deciding to ignore their warnings about opposing the sale of Morgan Street and moving to another floor of Canolfan Teifi.
Cllr ap Gwynn said: “I’m afraid the council has already decided.
"Cllr Edwards warned you about the consequences of your decision, as did I, unfortunately you made a different decision. We have to work with your opinions now."
