A MACHYNLLETH school is celebrating after winning an UNESCO award for promoting peace, sustainable development and global citizenship

Ysgol Bro Hyddgen won the award for all the work undertaken across the key stages.

In 180 countries globally, 10,000 schools have won the UNESCO accreditation, and winning this award reflects the commitment and hard work which happens across the school throughout the year in developing understanding and commitment of the pupils towards these principles.

Learners from the school have worked with pupils from Greece to complete work developing understanding of ecosystems including the Biosffer Dyfi ecosystem, and artists and musicians from the Basque country have worked with the school over the last year.

Also, amongst many other projects, the school has worked with Mach Maethlon to grow plants locally.

Recently, an assembly took place at the school, and the UNESCO certificate was presented to the head pupils by Allan Wynne Jones.

Support from Mr Jones and Andy Rowland of Ecodyfi was much appreciated by the school when the process of applying for this award was being undertaken.
