STUDENTS caught up in the chaos of Coleg Harlech’s closure have excelled in a new location.
Harlech was rocked last year by the announcement the town’s historic college building was to close, leaving uncertainty for dozens of students and staff.
Coleg Harlech’s Wern Fawr site, which has been open for 90 years, ceased to provide education for adult learners from September last year but certain services were relocated to Plas Tan y Bwlch, Maentwrog.
Despite the disruption, keen learners gained their certification at the centre earlier this week.
A spokesperson for the event said: “To celebrate a year of transition and the emergence of a new venue, Addysg Oedolion Cymru Adult Learning Wales congratulated the Access to Higher Education students 2018 and waved them off to their prospective degree courses.
“This year, students have successfully applied for places at university to study nursing, mental health nursing, midwifery, social work, criminology, psychology, dentistry and teaching. We are rightfully proud of the brilliant achievements of all our students and wish them much success in the future.”
The good news does not stop there, however.
“We are happy to announce the continuation of the Level 2 Skills for Further Study in Humanities and Healthcare with progression on to the Access to Higher Education Diploma in Humanities and Social Science or Healthcare from September 2018 at Plas Tan y Bwlch,” continued the spokesperson.
“The Level 2 courses will run on Thursday and the Access to HE course will be offered Monday to Wednesday, 9.30am-3.30pm (Monday and Tuesday) and 9.30am-1pm (Wednesday).
“The courses are free. An adult learning grant may be available according to circumstances.”
