THREE talented students from Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor have won places on a prestigious course at the National Writing School, Ty Newydd.

The English Language and Literature students, who are based at the college’s Pwllheli campus, were delighted to be chosen to attend the Pwllheli Rotary Club-Supported Creative Writing Course for Young People, a week-long residential course at the National Writing School.

Students Christian Bischoff from Criccieth, Catrin Jones from Chwilog and Annie Harris from Pwllheli were selected following an internal writing competition.

Ty Newydd’s residential courses are renowned for nurturing young writers, giving participants the confidence to explore their talent coupled with serious teaching that achieves life-changing results.

World-class professional writers work with small groups to support and challenge the abilities of all those taking part.

This year, the tutors were both Welsh - acclaimed poet and novelist Catherine Fisher, and renowned poet, singer-songwriter and broadcaster, Paul Henry.

Lecturer Wendy Hinchey said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students, and one that would not have been possible had it not been for the generous sponsorship of the Pwllheli Rotary Club.

"To be able to learn from two accomplished authors like Catherine and Paul was such a valuable experience, and I’m sure the students will have picked up some useful hints and tips which they can use in their future writing.”
