A DRAMATIC turnaround in league table performance at Aberystwyth University has continued as the institution celebrates being one of the highest climbers in this year’s influential The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide.

Jumping 23 places in the guide on the back of a stunning result in the latest National Student Survey (NSS) which saw Aberystwyth take its place once again in the top 10 of UK universities, the university has undergone a “remarkable transformation” the Times Guide said.

The university had slipped year-on-year in the NSS for the last six years, tumbling from a high of 92 per cent, and a place in the top 10 in 2010, to a lowly 83 per cent last year.

Traditionally a strong performer in student satisfaction surveys, the decline since 2010 has been a cause for concern and has been coupled with tumbling student intake numbers.

The results of the NSS are fed in to many influential league tables, including the Times Guide, and should ensure a further boost in future tables for Aberystwyth.

Tables are used by parents of prospective students when choosing universities, particularly foreign students, and the uptick in performance should also boost intake numbers over the next two cycles.

The Times Guide said: “Aberystwyth University attained the best scores for Wales in the most recent National Student Survey.

The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide analysis ranks it 10th in the UK for teaching excellence and 19th for student experience – a remarkable transformation from 2015, when it finished outside the top 100 in the UK on both measures."
