ABERYSTWYTH’S National Library of Wales hosted world-class archaeologists, linguists and scientists at weekend when the Beaker People, Archaeogenetics & Celtic Origins conference came to town.

The Atlantic Europe in the Metal Ages project explores connections across Atlantic Europe in relation to the development of language and the hypothesis that Celtic probably evolved from Indo-European in Atlantic Europe during the Bronze Age.

The research team of archaeologists and linguists is led by Aberystwyth University professor John Koch and Barry Cunliffe of Oxford University.

Speakers at the one-day forum included renowned European Bronze Age archaeologist Professor Kristian Kristiansen (Gothenburg) and leading archaeogenetisists, Wolfgang Haak (South Australia), Martin Richards (Huddersfield) and Stephen Oppenheimer (Oxford) who will explore ancient DNA in relation to the movement of people, ideas and language.
