A TALENTED teenager from Dolgellau has been accepted into one of the UK’s most prestigious schools of music.
Jacob Philp, 12, has achieved grade 6 in piano after first learning to play at the tender age of seven.
Following a laborious process of auditions, Jacob has managed to cement a place in the esteemed Royal Northern College of Music, a world-renowned conservatoire which has produced a series of prominent classical musicians.
His mother, Stephanie, said that of the 200 applicants – of various ages and from all over the globe – only 22 were accepted, of which Jacob was one.
He will start attending the college in September this year.
The young musician, who has been home-schooled since September in a bid to improve his playing ability, has played numerous shows around Meirionnydd and is delighted to make the step up.
“I didn’t really know much about it, but once it was explained to me, I really wanted to part of the Royal Northern College Of Music,” he said.
“I get to play piano, but I’ll also get to compose pieces too, it’s very exciting."
