EIFION Gwynne’s wishes to be laid to rest in Plascrug Cemetery will be honoured, the Cambrian News can reveal.

It was reported in the Cambrian News earlier this month that the family of Aberystwyth rugby legend Eifion Gwynne, 41, who died after being struck by a car in Spain on 22 October, were appealing for a burial plot at the council-owned cemetery to fulfil his wishes.

Eifion’s wife Nia said it was his wish to be buried in the cemetery as it is near his former schools, Ysgol Gymraeg and Ysgol Penweddig, his beloved rugby club, and his family home on St David’s Road.

But the council said that no new graves are available at Plascrug Cemetery, which remains available only for existing ‘Exclusive Right of Burial’ grant owners, although these rights can be transferred to other people.

Now ahead of Eifion’s funeral on Saturday, which is expected to be attended by thousands, Ceredigion County Council have told the Cambrian News that a burial plot has been transferred to Eifion’s family.

A Ceredigion County Council spokesperson said: “The council can confirm that the deeds for a burial plot in Plascrug Cemetery have been transferred to the family of the late Eifion Gwynne.”
