Madam,

David Evans’ letter (‘Correspondent is completely misinformed’) rightly points out that I am mistaken in saying Louise Hughes has been returned unopposed ‘time after time’. I stand corrected. There really is no excuse for my sloppy fact-checking.

The truth, that she was only unopposed in the last election, is easy to check on the Gwynedd Council website.

I apologise to her, the electorate of Llangelynnin and your readers.

I did indeed let the electorate down. However, it was illness, not a single shred of disrespect, that caused me to withdraw from the council election, as I have said.
