A BELOVED pet had a lucky escape after swallowing a 5cm fish hook on Tywyn Beach.

Her owner, Rebecca May, is now warning other dogwalkers and anglers to be cautious when visiting the town’s seafront.

Rebecca May, who was visiting the area to look after her father following a hospital visit, was walking on the beach opposite the Victorian slipway when she spotted some fishing line dangling out of the mouth of Bella, her seven-year-old Springer Spaniel.

Reacting immediately, Rebecca rushed Bella to Williams Veterinary Surgeons in Pendre Industrial Estate where they quickly operated on the dog.

Fortunately the operation was success and a fish hook, with a crook approximately the size of a 20p piece, was extracted from her stomach.

The price of the life-saving surgery would have cost Rebecca over £750, but luckily Bella was insured.
