IT was the end of an era in Bala last weekend as worshippers gathered to say goodbye to Y Capel Saesneg.

A special service was held at The English Chapel to mark the closure of the building as a place of worship.

At the end of 2017 when the doors were closed, it was not possible to arrange an official closing service.

The minister, Rev Hywel Edwards, conducted the service with Carey Williams playing the organ and leading the hymn singing, Shelagh Jones, one of the few church members, thanked the minister and the previous minister the Rev Eric Greene, for their services over the last few years.

She also thanked Iris Bingham, a stalwart senior member, for her faithful contribution to the life of the church and all those who had supported the church over the years.

The few remaining members were encouraged to join together for worship in Capel Tegid in the future.

At the end of the service, those present shared their happy stories with the congregation before photographs were taken by Evan L Dobson.

Members and friends of the church, who joined in the worship service, felt it was a sad experience, yet one which was a challenge, as the cause has not come to an end but it is now facing a new future.
