TWO Dolgellau food and drink entrepreneurs have celebrated St David’s Day by launching a new book.

Newly returned from a wine fair in Montpellier in southern France, Welsh wine importers Dylan and Llinos Rowlands showcased their new volume, Rarebit and Rioja, at their wine shop and café bar Gwin Dylanwad Wine.

Having previously received accolades from wine guru Hugh Johnson and wine writer Nevill Bletch, Rarebit and Rioja is the translation of the Welsh volume Bwyd a Gwin.

The book also bridges a new phase in Dylan and Llinos’ careers in the food and wine industry.

After nearly 25 years of running the The Good Food Guide-listed restaurant, Dylan and Llinos have branched out into a new business in their renovated 16th century building.

Two years of building work has resulted in a cellar wine shop, a glass extension to the bar and upstairs tasting rooms, where customers can taste the wide variety of wines Dylan has travelled far and wide to source – from Italy and France to Moldova and Armenia, in addition to the quality wines Welsh vineyards are now producing.

Dylan’s travels visiting various vineyards across Europe are also documented, and he recalls humorous stories on the characters who produce the wines.

Dylan is also a presenter on S4C daytime magazine show Prynhawn Da offering food and wine advice.

The foreword of the book is penned by BBC Radio 1 DJ, Huw Stephens.

Commenting on the book, Huw said: “As this success story grows, so too does its physical home, marking a new era for this proud Welsh institution.

“This book is a celebration of the story so far, and of the future and all that it holds.”

Rarebit and Rioja contains recipes, using Welsh ingredients, each accompanied by recommendation of the best wine to go with the meal.
