BARMOUTH was the starting post of an epic 24-hour bike ride last weekend.
A team of cyclists from Sutton Coldfield made the gruelling 300-mile trek from Barmouth to Yarmouth in a bid to raise over £20,000 for Breast Friends, a cancer charity.
The 12-strong team, who stayed at local hostelries Bunkorama Bunkhouse and Môr Wyn Guest House the night before their challenge, pushed their way through 15,000ft of hill climbs and maintained an average speed of at least 16 miles per hour throughout the length of their ordeal – arriving on the other side of the UK the next day at 6.45am.
The idea for the coast to coast ride came from Kevin Borg, a rider with Boldmere Bullets, a Sutton Coldfield based cycling group.
Kevin’s wife Emma has been battling with cancer and Kev said: “Breast Friends have really been there for us as a family in our time of need in very practical ways.
“As a family we’re very grateful for their help.
“I want to raise funds for Breast Friends to put back in so that others can benefit when dealing with the devastating illness.”
