A NEW rugby club stand extension built to remember a former captain would have made him “very proud”, his grieving parents said this week.

Robin Llyr Evans, 20, was a former captain of the Pwllheli Youth team before he fell to his death down a lift shaft at a tennis stadium in China whilst working for technology firm Hawk-Eye.

Robin, a popular figure in the community, has now been immortalised following the extension of Pwllheli’s stand in his honour.

The stand, which now measures 100 feet and can seat 40 spectators, was officially opened by Dr Dewi Roberts, a past chairman of Pwllheli Sports Club, whilst Robin’s family and friends were in attendance.

A memorial plaque was unveiled – created and donated by Pwllheli councillor Hefin Underwood – and a poignant minute’s silence was also observed by both Pwllheli and Caernarfon RFC before the home team went on to win the derby day clash by 14 points to eight.

A portion of the extended stand was financed by Robin’s parents, Gareth and Menai Evans, after they raised an incredible £17,000 walking around the circumference of Wales in memory of their son, lost in devastating circumstances.

The entire cost of the stand was in excess of £27,000, according to Pwllheli RFC chair Wil Martin.
