A builder from Llannor who was once homeless and an alcoholic has told how a TV programme has changed his life.

Chris Rees, a 45-year-old builder from near Pwllheli recently starred in S4C’s, Ty am Ddim, a renovation programme that gives two people a house to renovate in six months. Any profit that’s made they were allowed to keep.

The programme aired on Thursday, 12 December and had an amazing response with S4C receiving numerous calls and messages congratulating Chris and the programme.

Chris, who was once a homeless alcoholic, has built his life up during the past few years and is a builder by trade.

He was paired with Luke Philips from Caernarfon and they decided to buy a house on the outskirts of Bangor.

Recalling how he got involved with the show, Chris said: “I saw a flyer for the programme at my sisters’ hairdressers shop in Pwllheli, and I gave the production company a call thinking nothing much of it.

“I was thrilled to be chosen and absolutely loved the whole process. It was hard work, a lot of pressure and I learned so much. Towards the final four months I was working at the house seven days a week.”

Chris and Luke made a profit of nearly £20,000 – a total of nearly £9,500 each.

“Luke and I bonded so well, and we’ll definitely be friends for life,” said Chris.

“We’re planning on meeting up for a meal with our families very soon.”

He added: “I’m not too sure yet how to spend my winnings. I’m planning on opening a first-time buyer’s ISA account. I’ve also been looking online at properties abroad am have seen a house in Bulgaria for just £4,000 that could make the perfect holiday home and a rental project.

“My life has changed so much and I couldn’t be happier.”
