Madam,

I am writing to hopefully make people aware of the excellent work carried out by the Rehabilitation for the Visually Impaired Department in Ceredigion.

Figures last year from the RNIB website state that 107,000 people in Wales are living with sight loss and this unfortunately includes a member of my family.

Having the diagnosis of sight loss can affect people in many ways - isolation, depression, the inability to do normal everyday tasks and the loss of independence.

I am sure there are many more that can be included.

The realisation of it all can be very overwhelming but with the support of this department it has given her the confidence she needs to cope with her condition.

Firstly and most importantly they listened to her concerns about coping with everyday living with failing eyesight and then they were able to put certain measures in place to help her.

Further support was given by the Care and Repair Team who adapted the home to suit her needs as a visually impaired person. She was also introduced to optical devices such as magnifiers to help with reading important documents, etc.

Information was also given regarding joining support groups in the area.

This has had a positive effect on her wellbeing. My thanks go out to all who have helped.

This service is vital to those in Ceredigion who have sight loss and we certainly do not want to lose it.

Yours etc, Ray Williams, Llanfarian.
