Gwynedd Council has announced an extra Christmas waste collection to make sure nobody goes more than three weeks without a collection.
Christmas Day and Boxing Day are the only time of the year when some areas of the county don’t receive their usual waste and recycling collection service, so the council has put special arrangements in place.
Those who would normally put their recycling, food and household waste bins out for collection on Wednesday, 25 December, there will be a collection on Saturday, 28 December in the Arfon and Dwyfor areas and on Friday, 27 December in the Meirionnydd area.
For these households that will miss a collection on Thursday, 26 December, there will be a collection on Sunday, 29 December in the Arfon and Dwyfor and on Saturday, 28 December in the Meirionnydd area.
The council said it would not be possible to offer extra recycling, food waste or clinical waste or nappy collections (yellow bags).
These collections will re-start on Wednesday, 1 January and Thursday, 2 January 2020.
Although it’s a bank holiday, there will be normal collections for everyone on Tuesday, 1 January.
Gwynedd Council’s recycling centres will also be open for an extended period over the festive period.
Cllr Catrin Wager, Cabinet member for highways and municipal matters said: “As a council, we appreciate that the Christmas celebrations can mean that more rubbish that usual can accumulate over the festive period. We’d therefore encourage residents to make full use of the council’s recycling centres.
“Our recycling centres can be very busy on the days after Christmas, and that’s why we have arranged for a number of the centres to be open for an extended period. So you don’t have to rush down to the recycling centre first thing on 27 December.”
Steffan Jones, Gwynedd Council’s head of highways and municipal, said: “Full details of all your waste and recycling arrangements can be found easily online. As part of efforts to cut down on postage and printing, we won’t be posting 2020 waste and recycling calendars to all households in the county this year.”
