Madam,

The system of social care in Great Britain has been abandoned. There comes a time when we must all stand together for those who are less fortunate than ourselves.

The upcoming general election is a very important election for those who have dementia or physical needs.

We don’t hear from those in government - whether at Westminster, Welsh Assembly or county council level - hopw they are going to address the social services problem.

They must start by making day care and residential care a statutory requirement. We are going backwards in social care - for those who must have more support, even if it is a few hours of care. There is bed blocking, not enough care homes, and it is affecting the quality of life for many.

All professional carers must be recognised with a living wage. It would not break the Bank of England.

The situation is breaking up families.

All of us who have demonstrated over the closure of Park Avenue Day Centre in Aberystwyth and who have called for an appropriate future for Bodlondeb Residential Care Home will continue to highlight the void in provision in relation to social care.

Our silent vigil in Park Avenue is dormant, but we will continue our quest.

Yours etc,

Dai Thomas, Llwyn-yr-Eos, Southgate, Aberystwyth.
