AN ABERYSTWYTH family has raised over £5,500 to thank Bronglais Hospital for the care of a popular, former pub landlady.

The Carter family has donated the huge sum of £5,578 to Bronglais Hospital’s Iorwerth Ward and the Ceredigion Respiratory Department after Hilda Carter received treatment at the hospital.

Mrs Carter, a former landlady of the Black Lion in Llanbadarn Fawr and the Plough Inn in Mill Street with her late husband Brian, passed away in September last year.

The family arranged a fund-raising event at Aberystwyth Football Club in April, including a charity raffle, auction and entertainment, with a performance from Mrs Carter’s grandson Duke Christopher.

Diane Carter said the family were determined to find a way to thank hospital staff for Mrs Carter’s care.

She said: “We wanted to do the fund-raiser as a big thank you to Iorwerth Ward and its staff, Dr Pandya and his team, and Ceredigion Respiratory Department, with Sheila Pugh and her team, because of their excellent care and support shown to Hilda during her long illness.
