FEARFUL residents in Pwllheli have called for urgent action on a main road into the town following a fatal collision.
Neil Cottrell, 50, from Trefor, was killed in a crash between Llanaelhaearn and Parc Glasfryn on Thursday, 1 December.
The accident occurred only a week after another serious incident on the A499 Caernarfon Road, near Pwllheli, which saw one person taken to hospital with serious injuries.
A police spokeswoman said: “Mr Cottrell’s family have described him as a partner, uncle and friend who will be sadly missed by all.”
Cllr Mici Plwm, who lives on Caernarfon Road, has described the A499 as a “death trap” and is concerned more people will lose their lives unless new traffic-calming measures are put in place.
He said: “I believe this main road between Llanaelhaearn and Pwllheli is the most dangerous route in the whole of Wales.
“There have been a number of terrible accidents over the years.
“I live on Caernarfon Road and when I join onto the A499 it is incredibly dangerous and is a gamble for me every day. I know many people who live on this stretch that feel exactly the same.
“At the moment these accidents are happening on a weekly basis and I am incredibly worried about the situation.”
