A drainage ditch under a Borth road could lead to the road becoming unstable, a former community councillor has said.

But despite Phil Turner-Wright’s concerns, authorities have said they have not found any safety issues on the road, which is adjacent to the fire station leading toward Borth Zoo.

Mr Turner-Wright said he had discovered what he thought was initially a “catch pit” on the road, only to find that it was large ditch which was full of water and silt and was not draining.

He said: “Due to the mud in the waters I was unable to proceed under the road, which is supported by a bridging system.

“I was able to note that the drain pipes were about 300mm deep in silt and that there appeared to be no support to the bridging system at either end in the other direction.

“What was apparent was that there is a consistent amount of water under the road which is not able to drain away, which leads me to think that the soil around the supporting system is constantly being eroded.”

Despite Mr Turner-Wright contacting Ceredigion County Council and Natural Resources Wales, he said there seemed to be no progress.

However, a council spokesperson said there had been an inspection and no concerns had been raised.

They said: “Council officers have visited the site and have inspected the highways-related structures and found no issues of concern.

“Drainage structures on private land would be for the relevant landowner to inspect and maintain.”

National Resources Wales has been asked to comment.
